From July to October every year, over 1.5 million wildebeest and other herbivores embark on an epic trek out of the Serengeti to the Mara.  Predators, which rely on the wildebeest for food, follow them. The result is a concentration of wildlife unequalled for its number and diversity anywhere in Africa.  It is also home to BBC’s Big Cat Diary series, showing the daily life and drama of resident leopard, lion and cheetah.  The vegetation is open grassland with patches of acacia woodland, thickets and riverine forests.
